The Only White Man I Was Allowed To Love

I listened to the fist 15 minutes of this morning's Forum interview with Bill T. Jones, of whom I was entirely unfamiliar. He's a choreographer, among other artistic endeavors, but just judging from what I managed to hear, he seems incredibly well-read with that rare ability to tie conversations different people are having into everyday terms; specifically, he talks about how the politics of the body have always been inherent to dance, and then -- in passing -- mentions the politics of the body with respect to reproductive rights. It wasn't a major point in what he was talking about -- the topic moved on to Abraham Lincoln, of all things -- but nonetheless was such an incise and trenchant gem of thought that my mind was more than a little bit rocked. Once I have time to listen to the whole thing, I fully expect to hear him reconcile the pragmatics of Freudian psychoanalysis as a literary theory and to devise a viable cap-and-trade proposal.

Indie rating: Dusty Springfield - "Son of a Preacher Man"
